A two-month-old infant is in stable condition Sunday after being revived by a pair of police officers who were first to arrive at a Monmouth County home Saturday night to find the baby had stopped breathing.

Freehold Township police officers Alexander Fay and Justin Nunno were called to a home on Whistler Drive at 9:46 p.m., police said in a statement.

The officers teamed up on resuscitation efforts, with Fay performing chest compressions while Nunno worked on the baby’s airway, and was able to suction fluids from the baby’s nose and mouth.

“Freehold First Aid and RWJ Paramedics arrived and Officer Fay continued with chest compressions up until the time of transport to Jersey Shore University Medical Center by those units,” the department stated. “At last report, the child was stable and being treated by hospital staff.”

“We commend both of these officers for their efforts under such dire circumstances,” the statement stated.

Police did not describe the circumstances that led to the baby to stop breathing.
