What’s the Evidence For and Against Advanced Airway Management in Cardiac Arrest?

While endotracheal intubation has long been a key procedure in the management of cardiac arrest, it is often done while focusing solely on getting the tube in the right hole. All too often, paramedics (and physicians) pay insufficient attention to what is happening to the patient while they are intubated. This fast-moving review of the literature on the topic includes two large landmark trials comparing intubation to supraglottic airways. It will also cover several additional studies investigating possible mechanisms that might explain the results of these trials.
